1310 Gallery invites you to “Appropriated Gender”, a substantial group exhibition of 44 artists, both regional and national, that explore gender perception and self-identity with a wide range of aesthetic approaches, from witty, campy, or humorous to observational, intuitive, and personal in a smorgasbord of visual delights that will not disappoint.

Site specific installations will be featured throughout the gallery, including a pair of 18 foot tall inflatable superhero men by Patrick Flibotte. Visitors can also interact with two performative installations during the events. Carrie Sieh will guide the audience into her installation with gender-specific invisible ink blots, and Visitors that ride the gallery elevator will stumble into a surprise performative installation by Rosemarie Romero.

A group of prominent art professionals will serve as guest judges and select cash prizes. Awards will be announced at the Closing reception on Oct. 12, in addition to live music by Killmama and AstroKats.

1310 Gallery is an artist-run collective that offers over 3000 square feet of exhibition space split into 3 levels, and housed within ArtSpace’s live/work facility, Sailboat Bend Artist Lofts. 1310 Gallery rotates art exhibitions monthly and also hosts performances and workshops. The gallery is open by appointment in addition to event times. For further information please call 954-729-5794.

The Appropriated Gender exhibition is also part of the Third Annual ART FALLOUT downtown Fort Lauderdale art tour on October 6th. Girls Club Art Collection, 1310 Gallery, The Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale, FAT Village Arts District, and the Green Room will host new art exhibitions and events on the same night with Free shuttle buses rotating between each. These venues are unified in the mission to celebrate the Broward County Cultural Division’s designation of October as “a month for art,” supporting the production and presentation of contemporary art in the local community. These events will bring both greater awareness and unity to arts establishments within the proximity of downtown Ft Lauderdale.

Funding for this project is provided in part by the Broward County Board of County Commissioners as recommended by the Broward Cultural Council. This project is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts.
