Submitted artwork should fit or complement the theme “Elephant in the Room” which can be either conceptual or literal in context:
Media themes seeking: controversial, hidden agenda, taboos, secrets, discrimination, inequality, privileges, challenges to social norms, masks, cover -ups and other uncomfortable issues we sometimes choose to hide.
Elephant” as in ‘the elephant in the room’ is metaphorical idiom for an obvious truth that is either being ignored or going unaddressed. The idiomatic expression also applies to an obvious problem or risk no one wants to discuss, It is based on the idea that an elephant in a room would be impossible to overlook; thus, people in the room who pretend the elephant is not there have chosen to avoid dealing with the looming big issue.
An important and obvious topic, which everyone present is aware of, but which isn’t discussed, as such discussion is considered to be uncomfortable.
There will be a panel discussion as well as a month-long interactive piece inviting the community to share their ‘elephant’.
Artists are welcomed to participate in a community outreach art project with local at-risk youth. Artists who are interested in volunteering in the art project please contact the producers of the show. All participating artists are encouraged to participate in all of the events; however, the only requirement is to be available the opening night.
This will be the 8th annual exhibit. Some clips from previous events include:
