grand opening of Ubuntu featuring works of Nzingah at 1310 Gallery. During the reception there will be a dance and poetry workshop, in addition to several open studios from several artists in residence at Sailboat Bend Artist Loft. Whole Foods will also be sampling Ubuntu coffee. The opening coincides with art

walk at Fat Village and there will be a Trolley traveling back and forth from FAT Village and 1310 Gallery.

Biography

Nzingah Oniwosan is an award winning visual artist, jewelry designer, classically trained pianist, published poet, and up and coming African and Haitian folklore dancer. She has been a full time teaching artist for the past 10 years, which has allowed her to work with well over 20,000 students. During this time, Nzingah has the fortunate opportunity to work with organizations like VSA Arts FL, Center Creative Education, Coral Springs Museum, Miami Children’s Museum, as well as Young Audiences in Baltimore, to name a few. Her work has been noted in periodicals like the Sun Sentinel (2006/2007), Essence Magazine (2014) and Art & Culture Magazine (Fall 2006). Nzingah’s most recent accolades include: a grant in 2010 to exhibit the “Sankofa Experience” and in 2009 to exhibit “Un-murdered,”being named 2008 artist of the year by the Links Incorporated, and placing first in several juried exhibits. She is currently an artist-in-resident for Broward County School Board, as well as, Old Dillard Museum. Nzingah’s a certified level 1 Art Clay instructor and will be a senior Instructor Summer 2015. Outside of being a creative, Nzingah is a raw foods chef and a 200 hr registered yoga instructor.

Niki Lopez

Niki Lopez Afro-Latina, Queer, interdisciplinary Visual Artist, Curator, Social Practioner, Cultural Programer, award-winning Graphic Designer and Mom. Lopez is best known for her masks and a collection of works dealing with some of her trauma and healing through the arts which inspired her to create What’s Your Elephant ®. Lopez produces “The Circle”, a bi-weekly Facebook/Youtube live-video podcast sharing stories of our creative community, activists & social entrepreneurs. Niki’s advocacy includes mental health, self-care, and diversity in swimming. Lopez is one of the founding members of the Sailboat Artist Lofts.
